Old Fangs Arrives At Sundance

Nearly a year ago I wrote a post about a short animated film I was involved with called Old Fangs.

Now a year later, the film, written and directed by Adrien Merigeau and produced by Cartoon Saloon has been screening in the Animation Showcase of this years Sundance Film Festival.

This here is the film but it's probably best to watch it over on Youtube. The bigger the better.

The film tells the story of a young wolf who embarks on a journey with his friends, a cat and a fox, to visit his childhood home and hopefully reconnect with his father. My involvement in the film is that I am the voice of the cat. And he wears a hoodie. So I'm pretty chuffed to be involved in such a fantastic project and also be the voice of a cat who wears a hoodie.

I did my recording over a year ago and since then I've got to see the project coming together and the final product really is a credit to Adrien and all of his collaborators. It was a pleasure to be asked to work on it and it's great to see it getting such a warm reception.

The process of making the film was documented on Adrien's blog and can be viewed here.

You Just Keep Me Hanging On...

A one act play I wrote called Tenterhooks is getting another airing tomorrow night as a part of What's On Tom's 7 Deadly Scenes show. 7 short plays all performed in 2 hours in the really lovely surroundings of the Set Theatre.

Tenterhooks stars Jack O'Leary and Lynsey Moran and is directed by Andrew O'Leary. It's a black comedy about a suicidal woman searching for a knight in shining armour in a variety of different suicide and accident blackspots. That's pretty much it.

So, that and 6 other plays for 10 Euro is a pretty good deal. And it's one night only! 7 Deadly Scenes plays tomorrow night in the Set Theatre, John Street, Kilkenny.

I wrote a review of the last performance I attended and if so interested it can be checked out here.

Can't Pay? Won't Pay!

Rocking into my first big theatrical project for 2010 and it's the second part of Devious Theatre's Dario Fo Season. This time it's his 1974 comedy Can't Pay? Won't Pay!

A wild farce about shoplifting, unemployment and standing up for yourself against government forces, it's my second crack of the whip at directing a Dario Fo play after Accidental Death Of An Anarchist back in December. I was delighted with how that play was received, the audiences were more than healthy and we got some really lovely notices. So I'm hoping this one can trump it.

We've assembled another fantastic cast and crew and I couldn't be happier with them unless they could do the get in in 10 minutes or had their lines off tomorrow. This time out the cast will consist of Angela Barrett, Ross Costigan, Hazel Fahy, Ken McGuire and Paul Young. They've already sat in for our first cast reading and recording which were followed by the start of rehearsals this week.

I'll be blogging the rehearsal process over on Devioustheatre.com so if you're interested in the progression of the play, that's where I'll be documenting it. As will the rest of the team in what we hope will be a good sustained campaign of bloggination.

Can't Pay? Won't Pay! by Dario Fo will hit the Set Theatre, John Street, Kilkenny from 10th - 14th March 2010 at 8pm nightly. You can grab your tickets over on the website and the printed versions should be hitting Rollercoaster Records in the next week.
